NDP @ Padang!

July 30, 2005

Today is the fourth time that I’m watching the NDP, National Day Parade (first time was the Primary 5 NE show, second time was with my family, third time was with Jermin and this time was, with my sis). My Sis and IAlthough this is just the preview of the actual NDP on 9 August, I’m still very excited about it. Back to the topic, it was drizzling during the whole afternoon but my sis and I went there an hour and a half ealier so that we can get the best seats (this is also known as Kiasu). Well, since we have so much time to spare, both of us started to dig out the stuff inside the funpack (I don’t think I will want to elaborate more on what’s inside the funpack).

Anyway, the parade started at around 5pm and the emcees warmed us up by teaching us the ‘Dance Number 40′ and the Padang wave and ’so-called’ Singapore wave. The first performance was by 4 top school bands, they are Bowen Secondary School, Yishun Town Secondary School, Pingyi Secondary School and (don’t be surprised) Springfield Secondary School! The performance was quite good but as the ground was slippery due to the afternoon showers, quite a few performers fell down. The second performance is not worth mentioning as its damn boring, the combined schools choir singing some patriotic song. The parade march-in is the most comical part of the NDP show. When the emcee told us to welcome the MPs (Members of Parliament) and Prime Minister, the Singapore army sent a very young man to act as the MP/PM and person still have the cheek to wave at us. You might have gussed, the whole padang burst into laughter. Well, I wonder if I should laugh or feel annoyed about it as its so ‘unproffessional’ of them to send that person, they could’ve sent someone much older who looks more like the MP/PM.

Show segment is rather boring, it could be better. Nevertheless, the highlight of the NDP show is the fireworks display and everyone was enjoying themselves screaming and singing the National songs.
